The existing building is of a consistent originality at the level of its internal structure which is expressed through its thick walls and arches for heavy cannon. We worked on the design of the roof, making use of the prolongation of the rooftops of the adjacent buildings to angle its orientation so as to turn it towards the square and complete its form. In reviving the initial idea of a solid mass the treatment of illumination became of the utmost importance and would be achieved through small openings of different dimensions which alternated natural and artificial light. This lighting would be sustained by energy from photovoltaic panels located on the southern slope of the roof. Our intention was that this building should be the face of a people’s city and, at night, the mirror of its glamour.
